I usually avoid LotR fic like the plague, because so few (to my mind) can convey the awe, the tone, the atmosphere and feelings it evokes for me. (& while I love reading pr0n of many kinds, this is one fandom where I most emphatically do not!) I'm glad I gave this one a try though. I loved Legolas' struggle with mortality, the glimpses we get of his years with Gimli, the Elves and Hobbits and Gandalf - it's not uneven at all, and a wonderful rewriting of the heartwrenching mix of joy and sadness that life is in LotR.
