Yeah, I've kinda thought the lemon thing might be like that -- an unpleasant reaction rather than a life-threatening one. Not that this kept me from using it in a story, because anaphylactic shock is such fun to write. But Rodney looked annoyed rather than frightened when he suspected lemon in the hors d'oeuvres in Rising. Still, unpleasant allergies can often progress to life-threatening with repeated exposures. Mitchell could have motivated Rodney with their actual dangerous situation rather than risking a drop of lemon juice in his eye or something (when I peel an orange, it always goes straight for the eyes -- I'm sure lemons are the same.)
It's interesting that the hypoglycemia and the citrus allergy were both established in McKay's first episode on SG-1 and mentioned very little since then. I don't think (rifles brain) the hypoglycemia has been explicitly stated in SGA even though Rodney did pass out once from manly hunger. No, I lie, he talked about it in 38 Minutes. Another early episode. Hmmm. Has the citrus thing been mentioned between the pilot and now?
(I haven't seen Duet, which I know is a great Rodney episode with lots of Rodney quirks. Maybe some of this came up then?)
And Rodney did get to be right a lot in this episode, just because he's so great at scientific exposition. I liked him being cautious on the first try and ready to risk it all with the last two nukes. And Sam objected both times, but they still did it his way!
