Further update on the citrus thing as I had a much longer talk about it with Doc Mom.
Rodney is almost certainly absolutely NOT allergic to the lemon juice or pulp. That is so rare it is beyond talking about.
Like my garlic intolerence -- can't handle the oil in the fresh stuff -- what he's most likely (and read that as overwhellmingly likely) allergic to is the OIL IN THE PEEL.
IOW, he can eat a dish with citrus juice in it without the slightest ill effect (as I can eat things with garlic powder in them), but he's in whatever degree of trouble you want to give him if lemon ZEST is in the dish.
BTW, I belabor the lemon because while they said citrus last night, they keep showing lemons. I have the feeling TPTB think we're too dumb to know that citrus includes limes, grapefruits, organges, tomatoes, etc.
And I think the reason they've never had Rodney go into shock, even though it is an obvious plot point, is that 1) they do want to keep things ambiguous as to whether or not he actually has any of his claimed health problems and 2) if they don't handle it just right, Rodney will come off as way too fragile to be on a gateteam.
The citrus problem is in three eps -- Rising, Underground and Pegaus Project. The hypoglycemia is in Hidne & Seek plus 38 Minutes, although you could argue last night's off to get some food in the middle of things was a nod to it.
Again, I don't think Rodney is going to be extremely hypoglycemic as he's on a gateteam and that could mean being cut off with limited supplies for lengthy periods of time (although SG1 has done more stories along those lines than Atlantis). However, if he's like my mom, he can get very short tempered and be prone to headaches within 5 to 6 hours of not eating, which would make it more difficult for him to think and would make eating something when he needs a clear head a reasonable response.
This isn't to say I haven't enjoyed each and every story using the extremes of all his health conditions. I just think the show prefers to hint at a reality where he's exaggerating versus always on the point of disaster.

Again YMMV!
